Name: Dorian Judas Lockwood
Age: 25
Gender: Male
Location: Marquette

Supernatural Affinity
Type:

half demon (mother: demon (House of Chaos))

Powers:

He has some abilities which are uncanny to a supernatural level. He's good at finding information - if he needs to be able to find something out that he doesn't know, Dorian is very good at happening to pick the right book, or the right section of a store, or calling the right person. The ability's not infallible, but it makes him a great person to go to for information and once you get him on the case, he'll put most of his effort into figuring out the answers.

Also, Dorian gets hunches about people - he can tell when they have some kind of supernatural touch. He can't tell any more than that - but Dorian always knows when someone is more than just strictly human, has an ability, etc.

Appearance:

Dorian is the tallest of the Lockwood brothers, standing at 6'2 - arguably, he's also the most blessed in the looks department as well. He's got a good jawline and midbrown hair which he generally wears shaggy. He's slender without being thin and keeps himself in good shape.

His style is mostly casual, not really conforming to a particular style unless comfortable can be considered a style. He rarely looks out of place and is capable of dressing to the occasion, but he just tends to avoid the occasion if at all possible.

Like all half-demons, Dorian has a tell. His eyes are deep purple color which he's able to pass off as normal although it's anything but. In addition there are markings across his back that look almost like the aftermath of wings being ripped off, complete with what could be considered drops of blood from the base of the damage. The markings are shaped like scars, but lack the look of scar tissue and instead more closely resemble birthmarks and cover most of his upper back. It's easy enough to hide, which he does frequently and usually explained away as some sort of bizarre birthmark when it is noticed.

Personality:

Dorian is the most sensible of the Lockwood brothers. Growing up, he was always the one with a goal in life, who knew what he wanted and where he wanted to be. He's focused and driven and, most of the time, mature and sensible. Most of the time. Unfortunately, Dorian also has a jealous streak in him. Usually, this is directed towards his brother - he's jealous of his older brother, because he was always the superstar golden boy, and he is sometimes jealous of his younger brother, for being his younger brother. Dorian has never been entirely comfortable or secure with his position within his family.

Dorian definitely has middle child syndrome, and lacks the confidence to be his own person at times. He is always comparing himself to the people around him, seeing how he measures up. Because of this, Dorian also tends to be reticent with sharing his inner thoughts and feelings with people, and he is a very private person.

Most of the time, Dorian is relaxed and easy going, and gets on well with people. He does, however, have a real temper when he's riled and has a tendency to be overprotective about people he cares about.

After his most recent breakdown, the weaker aspects of Dorian's persona have surfaced. Before he was naturally a worrier, but it's multiplied and it's become common for him to fret over his younger brother, his older brother and just some of the wayward souls who find their way into Alexandria. In addition the middle child syndrome has increased and he finds himself both overly flattered and suspicious of compliments.

History:

Dorian Lockwood felt like he was born second best. His older brother, Mathias, was considered, apparently by everyone who ever met him, to be a superstar, a golden boy. Whilst Dorian grew up in awe of Mathias, he was also jealous - life in the shadow is never easy. Neither is having parents who won't hear a word said against their eldest son. Dorian learned early in life to keep quiet about his jealousy, and only let his awe out.

When Dorian was seven years old, his parents had another son, Caleb, and as far as Dorian was concerned, Caleb was just always the annoying younger brother. Dorian decided that, being that Caleb was the baby of the family, his parents must rate him just as highly as Mathias.

Not wanting to be compared to his older brother, Dorian focused on his own talents, becoming bookish. While Mathias was in sports, Dorian was on the chess team. Despite his good looks he was still a nerd.

That repression continued - Dorian for a time looked like he would be the brother with the 'normal' life. He dreamed of college, he dreamed of opening a bookstore, he dreamed of living a normal life with a house and a garden. Of settling down in a quiet town.

'Normal' he didn't quite manage. His major in college was in myth and ritual, and the bookstore he eventually opened specialized in the supernatural, but he got the quiet town, the house, the garden, the boring-yet-reliable car. And then, only months after his new store, Alexandria, opened in Marquette, he also got a kid - his kid brother, Caleb, to be exact. Dumped on his doorstep by parents who were off to tour Europe and didn't want their youngest son tagging along.

In retrospect, Dorian can see that it was all too much, too fast. The changes in his life all came at once - having to pay bills, run a business, work out how to mow the lawn, and look after a volatile, unstable teenager. Caleb really was a hard person to deal with, and when he had first arrived it wasn't unusual for them to have shouting matches or for Caleb to disappear all hours of the night with no word to where he was. It was really during that time that Dorian realized that he knew little to nothing about his younger brother, and that he hadn't even noticed that he didn't know. He tried his best, but after a few months, Dorian cracked and he disappeared, leaving his house, business and Caleb in the hands of his eldest brother with no explanation.

In his disillusioned mind, he decided he was going to give in to his darker side and be a hunter. Quickly it became apparent that this was not his calling and he got himself into quite the mess. If it wasn't for Caleb and Mathias bailing him out he probably wouldn't have made it out alive. Of course being bailed out didn't help his mental issues.

But returning to Marquette didn't solve any of Dorian's problems - he simply wasn't coping with the life he'd made for himself. The last straw came when his house was burned down by a spirit, and Dorian left. He moved to Europe, took some time, tried to get his head straight. This time there were no dramatics, there was no attempt to make himself something he wasn't. He decided he would take as much time as he needed - and in the end, didn't need as much time as he thought he would.

Dorian returned to Marquette to take over his store again with a fresh perspective on his life. He realized that he'd just been trying too hard to be something he wasn't. He'd loved his books, he'd loved his research - he just didn't need to have the human 'respectable' trappings that went with that.

Of course, given his shaky mental state, he succumbed to the advances of the teenage girl who worked in his store, Medea. Their sordid affair was a secret, but recently she's gone missing, and presumed dead. He mourns her silently, afraid that even in the current state of the world he'd still be punished.

With his house gone, Dorian has moved into the small one bedroom apartment that's above Alexandria. It's not exactly the Taj Mahal, but it serves the needed purpose. He's also obtained an unwilling tenant. After helping Caleb out by braking the curse that bound Zelina to the RingMaster, he accidentally bound her to himself. He doesn't quite realize it, but she won't go away despite the fact that she seems to hate him. Dorian though finds her interesting enough, and pesters her with questions while he documents information about the Fae and thus tolerates the fact that she's always there.

Special abilities and skills:

Dorian is excellent at research. He was always a decent student and enjoyed learning, and this was always supported by his innate abilities. For the last few years (give or take a nervous breakdown or so) he's run his own bookstore and he has managed to become almost an expert on things related to the supernatural.

He's also pretty good with firearms, and can hold his own in a fight, which has come in handy in the past.

Weaknesses:

Recovering - Dorian is recovering from his second nervous breakdown. He's gone a long way down the road back to stability, but he's still aware that it happened and he went completely off the rails. He's also aware that he's now back in the place and in the role that led to all of that. He thinks he can do it, he feels like he's mentally in a better place, but there's a worry and caution that he can't and won't let go of. He's learning to trust himself again, and that's not anything that can be rushed.

Inferiority Complex - He grew up hearing nothing but praises for Mathias, falling under his shadow. For a while he even thought Caleb cast a shadow over him. With more recent knowledge of just how fucked his parents were, he's coming out of it a little, but that doesn't mean there aren't still old wounds in the process of healing. He's always looked at Mathias and thought Math was infinitely better, a standard he'd never be able to live up to, and while dealing with Caleb earlier in the year, he started seeing himself as not measuring up there either. The breakdowns and the house burning to the ground didn't help matters either. The issues had extended into all aspects of his life, all friendships, not that there are many of those left.

Curious - Something that really drove his choices in life, Dorian is a curious person by nature. He wants to know the answers, and if he doesn't, he'll track them down. He's not someone who just shrugs and moves on to the next thing, he'll spend ages trying to dig up an answer to things and is difficult to sway off of this path if he gets stuck on it. It can border on obsessive, and it tends to consume his attention until he gets satisfaction in finding what he's after. Which means other things may fall by the wayside if he's going to be digging for a while.

Self-imposed expectations - Dorian is very conscious of appearances, and specifically, how he appears to people. He tends to assume people expect things from him (eg, to achieve goals, or to live a certain lifestyle, or act a certain way) and he tries to fulfill these goals. The thing is that these are all based on Dorian's own assumptions about what other people may be thinking - they're not actually based on any factual reality , nor does he ever actually ask 'is this what you want?' As a result, he's often way off mark.

Downswing - When Dorian hits low spots, when he's emotionally hurt, or feeling upset or guilty about things, sometimes it can drag him down for a while. If he hits a funk, it isn't something he shrugs off as easily as most people do. It's a part of his process of recovering, but that's one of the more prominent lingering features. It's something he's dealt with for most of his life, and he's working on it--he really, really is, and he's aware of it in himself, but sometimes he just can't help it. Sometimes frustration drags him down and he'll be stuck in a dark mood for days before he can find a way back to feeling more positive again.

Low self esteem - Between a few breakdowns, some comments from his younger brother that hit closer to home than most would imagine and a few nasty break ups, Dorian's self image is pretty rotten. It makes him susceptible to kind words, and an easy mark for someone willing to boost his go.

Strengths:

Dorian is well educated and well versed in the supernatural. He's a great go-to guy for information and if he doesn't know it, he's good at finding it out. He's also got contacts, so he often knows who to phone if he doesn't have the answer on hand. What he's studied he knows and he knows well. If there's a subject authority on the supernatural around, it's Dorian.
