patching up

Who: Tad and Jess
Where: the hospital
When: afternoon

Tad had taken long enough to try and rinse out his arm enough to get some of the feeling back. Thankfully it wasn’t deep and he was getting feeling in his fingers back. At least it hadn’t gotten to his wrist sheaths. Those were off as well, dropped on the bed next to Jess. He was already working on her wounds, cleaning them out, flexing his numb hand some to try and get feeling back in it.

Jess was really feeling strange. She wanted nothing more than to just curl up and snooze this all away. But Tad was there, working on her injuries, and she didn’t know what to do. “Tad...if you don’t get yourself squared away, your arm is gonna fall off and that’s going to freak me out way too much.”

Reprieve

Who: Gabe, Roxie and Grams (NPC)
Where: The hospital
When: late afternoon

Tad was taking care of Jess and he’d shaken his grandmother off, leaving her to look over Roxie’s leg. Gabe was anxious but useless in this situation outside of sitting with Roxie, arm around her waist, waiting to see if she could be helped. “Does it hurt?” he asked Roxie, resting his head on her shoulder.

Roxie nodded, leaning her head into Gabe's as she took a deep breath. "Yeah, but nothing I can't handle. It's..weird. Numb but still hurts or something. I don't know what's going on. This thing just...swiped at me, I managed to get my pencil in its hand or arm or something, and I got out of the school before I even stopped to look at my leg. Is it gonna be ok, Doc Grams?"

Meeting Up Again

Who: Harlow and Renaud
Where: Streets
When: Night

Harlow lived for this. The scales were ridiculously tipped and that was her cue to get started. She’d loaded herself up with ammunition, pistol in the back of her ripped jeans, knives scattered here and there along her person, brass knuckles already on one hand as the other held her cigarette to her mouth. Time to do some real research, some real work for the first time in what seemed like forever. And although the town was collectively freaking out and people were scattering around her, Harlow was grinning as she walked down the street.

bad things start happening

Who: Tad, Harper, Roxie, Gabe, Jess, and Ryan
Where: The school, then the hospital
When: late afternoon

Harper took off running down the hallway, sneakers sliding against the slick linoleum. Her nose was bleeding and making it difficult to breathe but she was somehow managing too anyway. She was getting soaked from the sprinkler system, the damn fire alarms ringing. It was making her head positively pound. Whatever those things were, Ryan had told her to run and she did, even as his screams had her wanting to go back. The fact that she could no longer hear them made her blood run cold.

You say you're fine

Who: Dorian and Megan
Where: Alexandria
When: late

He’d found his way back to Marquette and the bookstore, dragging his feet as he let himself in. He could have gone home, but home wasn’t where he wanted to be. Being Famine wasn’t always a bad gig. Dorian liked spreading the right knowledge, liked people taking the right knowledge and often they did good things with it. Though sometimes, sometimes when he spread the right knowledge he knew he was clearing a path for Death to follow in his footsteps. Though it was the job, it was the balance they sought, sometimes it was hard to do, hard to walk away, knowing he’d just set something tragic in motion and not be worn down by it.

what you want

Who: Dorian and Jen
Where: Alexandria
When: late morning

Dorian was tired and he was pretty sure it showed. His hair was a bit of a mess from his hands being in it, the steaming cup of coffee in front of him was his third and it wasn’t working. Being Famine was usually pretty straight forward, usually a matter of clearing up information and setting people straight. The problem this time was that, in order to keep Star’s balance, setting them straight meant wiping out a community. He hated it, in a way, but at the same time he realized the point. It just couldn’t be. Normally the job just made sense, he was distanced from the results, but this time he’d been in it, the informed source that was explaining why death was the right option.

Unexpected Turns

Who: Megan and Dorian
Where: Dorian's Old Apartment/Megan's New Apartment
When: Afternoon

Megan had shucked off her Henley early on in the unpacking process – the chill that had been in the air had given way to a hazy warmth – and she adjusted the strap of her tank top with one hand while the other undid the box on the table in front of her. The windows were thrown open and a fan was going. Dorian’s scent permeated everything and she was doing her best to try get rid of it. It was weird, being surrounded by boy smell, plus the mustiness of the bookstore below but there was something oddly comforting about it that she wasn’t entirely sure about.

urges

Who: Bradley and Hayley
Where: the beach
When: afternoon

They’d already had a plan in place, spending time together at the beach before the conversation Bradley had had with Oz. It was a whole thing, an afternoon by the water, somewhere Hayley knew about that wasn’t really around anyone else, but at the same time not just cooped up in her room.

The conversation with Oz had left him curious and uncomfortable since he’d had it, and he’d been too eager to get back with Hayley again and ask her about things. He didn’t know what it would mean for them or what she’d think, but it had been on his mind since he’d met up with her, tugging at a frayed piece of his jeans nervously as he sat with her. “I think we should talk,” he finally managed, glancing up at her.

The Talk

who: oz and bradley
where: the commune
when: morning

Oz was outside on the porch, reading. Bradley hadn't come in the night before, and he'd tracked the kid's scent into town, and to Hayley's house. He hadn't bothered anyone, really so long as he knew where he was, he was fine with whatever, but it did have him waiting for the blonde to get home. He knew there'd been a whole lot of transition lately, and he should probably address a few things if he was going to be spending the night in a girl's room. Especially if that girl was a werewolf.

It was that combined sort of scent of Bradley and Hayley that alerted him to the teen's approach before he heard or saw him. Looking up, he eventually saw him coming down the path to the house. "Morning." he greeted.

Who: Tad and Misha
When: Afternoon
Where: Tad's house

Tad was waiting for the younger guy, sitting on the front porch of his house, Diet Coke in hand and headphones on. He wasn’t going to admit that he was outside just in case Jess wandered by, or that cat. Admitting that would sound stupid. It sounded stupid in his head which meant he was keeping it to himself.

Denial and Bargaining

Who: Isobel and Star
Where: The beach
When: Afternoon

Isobel had gone over the books, the plan, everything she could think of. Harlow’s advice had been valuable, more valuable than what she had found in what she’d gotten from the bookstore. Now she was standing on the beach, wind whipping at her hair and she looked out at the shoreline. She wasn’t afraid of things normally and she wasn’t that afraid of what she wanted to do. The worry that she might make things worse though? That was what weighed heavily on her mind and had her pausing. The pause wasn’t long though and she looked up towards the sky, the fluffy blue clouds drifting along. “Mourning Star?” she called, feeling somewhat silly at calling out to thin air. “I... request your presence.”

Between jobs

Who: Caleb and Nic
Where: Nic's house
When: Afternoon

Caleb was a little injured. Not overwhelmingly so--and weirdly most of the injuries were small and shallow. But that was what happened when you got utterly overrun by small demony type creatures he'd never seen before. They kind of reminded him of that old movie, Critters. Only more annoying. Either way, he'd spent the majority of his day in some backwater village in Alaska, getting rid of the stupid things. When he got back to Marquette, he was pretty exhausted, and instead of going back to the hospital, he headed for Nic's house. He didn't know if she was home or not, but he was planning on giving it a shot. So he dropped down outside her window, and peeked in.

an oddly normal interlude

Who: Bradley and Hayley
Where: Hayley’s room
When: afternoon

They couldn’t spend time at the commune, but that hadn’t stopped Bradley from finding time with Hayley elsewhere. At the current moment he was sitting on her bed, waiting for whatever it was they would wind up doing to start. He’d found that it was nice to just be in her room. It was a strange feeling, to have one’s own space that was full of their things even if Hayley didn’t have a lot of things. Not that that sort of thing mattered to Bradley. He was dressed in hand-me-down clothes that only mostly fit and he had next to nothing that was his.

The whole thing had been a good idea. Probably the best idea Gabe had had in a long time. As the fire started to putter out he pulled Roxie closer, arms around her as she leaned back against his chest. They’d made dinner over the fire, s’mores and were now both full and happy. He nestled his head a little closer to hers. “Having fun?” he asked softly, voice close to her ear.

Strike a deal

Who: Harlow and Isobel
Where: The Island
When: Afternoon

Isobel had the books she’d gotten from Alexandra spread out on the picnic table she sat at. The wind was light and she kept her fingers resting on the pages to keep them from fluttering. She probably would’ve gotten better information from Emmit or even Harlow but she couldn’t talk to them about this (especially Harlow). All she could learn was what she already knew and she sighed, rubbing her face tiredly. She needed to figure something out and she needed to learn more about the Mourning Star.

Who: Ben, Gabe, and Roxie
When: Early evening

Roxie was excited and yeah, ok, maybe a little nervous too as she sat in the passenger’s side of Gabe’s truck while they drove. She had a bag packed, some essentials plus some fun things like s’more’s fixings, and was resting her leg against the back as it settled on the floorboard. “Off into the wilderness,” Roxie said with a grin as they drove, looking back over at Gabe.

eyes of gold

who: layla and jen
where: MGH

Pneumonia. The doctor were worried about pneumonia since the bronchitis had gotten so bad and Layla was stuck in the stupid hospital while they monitored her. The mold allergy had aggravated the chest cold and that was their reasoning and Layla was no stranger to hospitals, but it didn’t mean she liked them. Foster wasn’t there to occupy her which left her having to find her own amusement and she shuffled down the hallway in her pajama pants and hoodie, inhaler in hand. Ridiculous. This was ridiculous. There had to be some kind of charm that could keep this from happening but she had yet to figure it out. Her irises were a dull yellow and that had been looked at curiously but no one had bothered her about it yet.

It was the evening of the full moon. Moonrise wasn't for a little bit yet, not that long, but Hayley was already in the cage in the basement at the commune. She'd been told that there should be a cage in her own home by the time the next one rolled around, or some other arrangements could be made, depending on what she wanted. Oz kept telling her she needed to be there with them, but he didn't push so hard that he insisted.

Who: Misha and Brad
Where: Commune
When: Morning

Misha hadn’t slept but he hadn’t really expected to. What he had expected was to be pissed off all night. He spent a lot of time going over the spells he had, working on some of the spells he’d been thinking of, and reworking the balm so that he could make some for himself without thinking about the balm he’d made for Hayley. It hadn’t worked.

Which lead him to the kitchen, where he was now, making an afternoon tea just for the caffeine it would provide. He had his heaphones in, Noelle’s bracelet on his arm, and was watching the kettle, waiting for it to wail that the water was ready.

By the time he called it quits out of exhaustion and checked his phone he was already worried he’d missed her. That wouldn’t bode well, not with everything making her as nervous as it did. Leaving his work he made his way towards where to Annabell said to meet her, hoping he wasn’t too late.

When he got to the house, her aunt pointed him towards the sun room. He made his way there, peeking in slowly at first, not sure where she was in the mass of plants. “Hayley?”

With different motivations, Misha’s seemed to be pulling him along fast and Bradley lagged behind.

Hayley wasn’t at her parents though and a quick phonecall confirmed she was at her cousins, which had them setting out in a different direction. “What are you going to say?” Bradley asked Misha as they got the cousin’s street.

Who: Dorian and The Mourning Star (NPC)
Where: Alexandria

Dorian watched the curious girl leave, head tilted to one side. That was just weird. Really weird. He had weird interactions with people, but nothing like that. “I know it’s a little ridiculous to think you’re that omniscient, but really that was just weird. If I were Star I might be, well curious.” He was talking to himself and he realized that was a touch crazy. At least it was crazy until Star showed up. If she showed up.

Surprise visit

Who: Annabell and Hayley
When: Night
Where: Annabell's place

After she'd packed her things, left the notes and quietly slipped out, Hayley continued to walk the long way into town, head hung as she did so. She was at a total loss, feeling so emotionally awful that she barely paid attention to anything around her. She was so buried in her thoughts that she barely even noticed that she'd arrived at her cousin's house, and she stood outside that door for a few long moments as well. Her aunt and uncle would be sleeping, probably. But the sun room was probably open, right? So she walked around to the back of the house to the sun room, where there were plants flourishing everywhere, so thick you could barely see inside.

Unwanted surprise

Who: Isobel and Dorian
Where: Alexandria
When: Afternoonish

Isobel was scrolling through her contacts in her cell phone, wondering who it was that she could call that might have the information she needed. Her mother was her first thought, but she’d tried that particular number and it hadn’t work, which meant that her parents were outside of the loops and might as well have been in the middle of the Amazon for all the good it would do. Christer had seemed to know some information, but the suspicious looks the kid had given her had Isobel nixing that particular avenue of information.
